Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 13-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Each author may submit only one work, at most, per category (article, best practices, case studies and review)
  • The Revista da Defensoria Pública da União publishes works written in Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and English.

Author Guidelines

The articles should contain:

1. Minimum of 10 and maximum of 25 pages;

2. Header: title (Portuguese and English), subhead and name of author(s) (maximum of three authors);

Title: in capital letter, bold and centralized (must clearly state the topic addressed in the text);

Name of the author(s): full indication after the title, aligned to the left (with the appropriate qualification, which must contain the IES to which it is linked).

3. Summary: as a summary of the article content, it should contain 100 to 250 words, it will be written in active voice, in the third person singular and located before the beginning of the text.

Summary in another language: in texts in Portuguese and Spanish, an abstract should also be presented in English. In the works in English and Spanish, the Editor-in-chief will arrange, if the authors do not send, the translation of the abstract into Portuguese;

4. Keywords: up to 5 (five) significant words that express the content of the article, written in bold, left alignment, separated by semicolons or period;

Keywords in another language: in texts in other languages, keywords should also be presented in English. In works in other languages, the responsible editor will arrange, if the authors do not send, the translation of the keywords into Portuguese;

5. Summary: the information of the sections that compose the article should be numbered progressively in Arabic numerals;

6. Text of the article: should present as sections an introduction, development and conclusion;

7. Citations, footnotes and bibliographical references: they must follow the ABNT norms (NBR 10520 and NBR 6023). Bibliographical references in the body of the text should be in the footnote template and at the end of the text should be complete;

8. Annex: material complementary to the text, included at the end only when it is indispensable;

9. Tables or graphs: the "tabular presentation standards" published by IBGE should be adopted.

 

The reviews should contain:

 

1. Up to 7 pages;

2. Header: bibliographical reference of the original work (author, title, place, publisher, year, pages)

Name of the author(s): completely after the title, aligned to the left (with the appropriate qualification, which must contain the IES to which it is linked), preceded by the preposition "by".

3. Reviews of works with more than five (5) years and of manuals will not be accepted.

 

Good institutional practices/case studies should contain:

 

1. Up to 10 pages;

2. Header: title (Portuguese and English) subtitle and name of author(s) (maximum of three authors), preceded by the preposition "by".
