Jürgen Habermas. Public Sphere. Democracy. Theory of Communicative Action. Procedural Paradigm.Abstract
The present essay intends to comprehend the concept of public sphere, discussed by Jürgen Habermas, and relate it to the development of a democratic society. The reported philosopher, quoted here as a theoretical bound, is the author of the theory of communicative action, which means that the understanding is reached when people participate in the formation of opinion and will. Therefore, the public sphere of Habermas is built in order to turn the action into a requirement to achieve the understanding, and this public sphere corresponds to the social space of the communicative action. Habermas believes that when the citizen is the author of his own speech, this assures his public autonomy, in other words, it affirms his right of democratic participation in the community.
