The purpose of this article is to investigate how the Brazilian Public Defender – as other countries in Latin America such as Argentina, Guatemala, Colombia, among others, and in the world as the Spanish defensor del pueblo and classical Swedish Ombudsman – has exercised its functions in the work carried out by molds Ombudsman. How has this function been treated doctrinally? And why is it important for the protection and consolidation of human rights, particularly in Brazil? What, therefore, their actual outlines, especially after the recent and progressive legislative changes in Brazilian law brought by ECs nos 74/13; 80/14 and the decisions of the Brazilian Supreme Court.
