Public defender Office. Internet Access. Legitimacy.Abstract
The present paper aims to wage a preliminary approach regarding the public defender’s office’s legitimacy towards the individual and collective protection of poor Internet users’ rights. It’s a group that is usually handicapped in economical and technical ways when compared to telecommunication companies and the Government itself, as well as its agencies, considering two notable outlooks: that Internet access in Brazil is becoming an essential tool as the country modernizes itself, and that it is becoming more common and accessible by the day, especially in regard to mobile phones, which is a situation caused by public policies and cost reduction. Thereby, a new potential lawsuit gender might be inserted among the public defender office’s powers.
